Good Evening Grizzlies, this is Mrs. Huff with the Willow Grove weekly update.
STUDENT COUNCIL APPLICATIONS
Is your child a natural-born leader who aims to make a difference at Willow Grove? If so, they might be interested in running for Student Council this year! Student Council applications will be available for 3rd through 5th graders starting tomorrow, September 15th, in front of Mrs. Choe's classroom, Room B-9. If your child needs help filling out the application or has questions, they may attend an optional meeting on Tuesday, September 16th, at 8:30 a.m. in Room B-9. Applications will be available until Friday, September 19th. Be sure to pick one up if you are interested!
MAP TESTING UNDER WAY!!
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing is under way. All of our 1st -5th grade classes participate in MAPS testing each trimester. MAPS testing is a formative assessment that provides an immediate feedback mechanism to the teacher and the learner about how they are moving towards meeting proficiency on the state standards. MAP results are one of the many formative assessments each grade level uses to drive instruction and help differentiate teaching in the classroom. Compass Learning is also aligned to students’ MAPS results. Once students complete their MAPS assessment, Compass Learning assignments will be ready for Grizzlies.
PARENTING WITH LOVE & LOGIC
Thank you to the parents who joined us last Thursday evening for Parenting with Love and Logic with Dr. Charles Fay. What an incredible time of learning and fun! We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful PTA who supported this event!!!
GATE TESTING
The GATE testing window is open and is on the PUSD website now through Friday, November 21, 2014. The GATE test will be the week of January 12-15, 2015. Attached is a newsletter with detailed information regarding testing.
FAMILY DINNER NIGHT
Please save the date for our first Family Dinner Night at Rubios on Wednesday, September 24th, from 2:00 – closing. All proceeds support our Willow Grove Educational Foundation.
PICTURE DAY IS THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY!
Picture Days are Thursday, September 18th, and Friday, September 19th. Your teacher will let you know which day your child’s class will be taking pictures. Please have your child bring your package purchase envelope on their picture day. For more information, please see the attached handout.
FIRST FAMILY MOIVE NIGHT ON SEPT. 19TH FROM 6:00 – 8:30 PM!!
The PTA is excited to offer our Grizzly families FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT! Please come join us for Monsters University on the grass field. Bring a blanket and a lawn chair and enjoy some music, popcorn, and Italian Ice. Music begins at 6:00 and movie is from 6:45-8:30.
GGF CONNECT ED
Our 6th Annual Grizzly Growth Fund Campaign has officially kicked off! By now you should have received a brochure in the mail and we thank those families who have already donated. The Grizzly Growth Fund helps support vital programs at Willow Grove including Impact teachers and classroom aides; music, PE and engineering programs; and technology such as laptops and iPads. This year, the Foundation is also funding Apple TV installation in every classroom, a new resource scientist and hands-on science lab!
Every donation counts towards continuing these important programs for our Grizzlies. You can find extra donation cards in the office or donate online atwww.willowgrovefoundation.org
MIXED BAG FUNDRAISER
Thank you to those who supported our PTA with the new Mixed Bag Fundraiser. There a lot of useful items to choose from such as reusable shopping bags, duffle bags, and car organizational bags. We were able to extend the deadline to Sept. 16th for those of you who still wish to turn in your order forms. As always the PTA appreciates your support!!
