WE CARE BEARS
Do you have a gently used stuffed animal or toy that is simply lying around your house? We've got great news! Student Council is once again teaming up with the organization We Care Bears to provide instant comfort to kids in unbearable situations. We can help by collecting bags of stuffed animals for first responders and other organizations that work with children who may be scared or injured. From October 20- 24, please send in any new or gently used stuffed animals. There will be a donation bag in the office and in each child's classroom. Thanks for your support!
BOOK FAIR/ FAMILY PORTRAIT NIGHT
Our 7th annual Book Fair came to a successful close last Friday with record attendance! Thank you to the students and parents for purchasing books, and a big thank you to the volunteers who put in so many hours to keep the store open. Thank you to Jillian Zwerenz for chairing the Book Fair and to Mary Yell for coordinating our Family Portrait night this year.
GOT AN OPINION ON A BOOK?
Thank you to those students who stepped up and reviewed a book during our first Book Talk sessions this past week. What a great job you did representing readers in your grade levels and supporting the Book Fair. Do you want to be a featured Grizzly during our next Book Talk? Look for entry forms in the front office.
FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT
Attention Golfers! The tournament is selling out fast! There are only a few foursomes left so if you want to play, sign up now. Go to www.willowgrovefoundation.org and be sure to purchase your raffle tickets and helicopter balls. You could be a lucky winner of $2500!!
ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM
There are families in need at every school in our school district. The Adopt-A-Family program allows us as a school community to provide them assistance during the holidays. To kick off donations this year, we are having a GIFT CARD DRIVE at the FALL FESTIVAL! Please bring any grocery, gas, department store or Target/Walmart-type gift card to donate, and you will be entered to WIN TICKETS TO CINEPOLIS! Please help us support our Poway Unified families in need. See the attached flyer.
FALL HARVEST PARADE -THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31
We will be having our Harvest Parade on October 31. Students may wear costumes to school if they wish. Please follow a few simple guidelines when selecting a costume for school. For guidelines details, please see the email version of this Connect Ed.
o Avoid masks. If a costume requires a mask, it may only be worn during the parade.
o No weapons, blood or gore. We promote a safe and friendly environment at Willow Grove. Weapons, blood and gore don't support this philosophy. Toy guns, knives, handcuffs, swords, nun chucks, etc. will be taken and returned at the end of the day. Any child with bloody make-up will have to remove it.
o Costumes that portray violent characters in movies/ TV are not appropriate at school. Save them for after school events and trick or treating.
o Display respect for other cultures. Stereotyping or ridiculing other races or cultures is unacceptable.
Whichever costume you and your child select, please remember to keep it simple. Five hours in an elaborate costume can be tiring at any age. We are looking forward to a fun filled day.
It’s going to be a grrrrreat Grizzly week…see everyone tomorrow!
